The AF-S 16-80mm f/2.8-4E DX ED VR lens from Nikon is a compact and versatile zoom lens for your Nikon DX-format cropped sensor DSLR camera. With an equivalent focal length of 24-120mm, you'll be prepared to cover a wide range of subject matter, from landscapes to sports. This is benefitted further by a fast maximum aperture range from f/2.8 at 18mm to f/4 at 80mm, making it well-suited to working in low light and with shallow depth of field techniques.
The optical design includes extra-low dispersion glass and aspherical elements to minimise aberrations for overall image sharpness, while Nano Crystal and Super Integrated Coatings reduce ghosting and lens flare for impressive clarity and colour reproduction. A protective fluorine coating is also applied on the front and rear elements, making it easy to clean off any water or dirt. A rounded 7-blade aperture diaphragm provides smooth out-of-focus 'bokeh' areas.
A Silent Wave Motor AF system ensures focusing is fast, accurate and near-silent. Manual focus override is also available for fine-tuned control, simply by turning the manual focus ring. Internal focusing means the length of the lens does not change during operation.
Vibration Reduction Image Stabilisation makes it easier to work handheld and in low light, by compensating for the effects of camera shake at slow shutter speeds and longer focal lengths by up to four shutter speed stops. A Sport VR mode is available for panning and fast movements and a Tripod VR mode for reducing the impact of subtle ground vibrations when using a support system. Additionally, an electromagnetic aperture mechanism is built into the lens for greater exposure control stability that is particularly beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.
Due to the electronic control required for full operation, this lens is not compatible with D2-series, D1-series, D200, D100, D90, D80, D70-series, D60, D50, D40-series, or D3000 DSLR cameras or film SLR cameras.
