Hasselblad
503CX Body + 80mm Planar + 50mm Distagon + 2 Backs
Medium Format SLR Film Camera Kit
The 503CX is a medium format SLR film camera from Hasselblad produced between 1989 and 1994. Known for producing cameras of exceptional quality, the Hasselblad uses interchangeable lenses and film magazines. The 503CX is an upgraded version of the 500C/M and features through the lens 'OTF' (Off The Film) flash metering.
With the exception of 'F' type lenses, all Hasselblad lenses manufactured since 1957 can be used with the 503CX. Here the 503CX is paired with the 80mm f/2.8 Planar CF T* lens and 50mm f/4 Distagon T* lens.
The 80mm f/2.8 Planar CF T* lens is a classic. It was a lens chosen for use on Apollo missions and used to capture the well-known images of Earth rising over the lunar surface. Featuring T* multicoating, it features a four-element, three group optical design, rubber focusing ring and metal 60mm bayonet filter mount. When used on a Hasselblad camera it captures a 35mm equivalent angle of view of approximately 50mm.
The 50mm f/4 Distagon T* lens captures a 35mm equivalent angle of view of approximately 28mm. It features a seven-element, seven group optical design, and like the 80mm it boasts T* multicoating. It features an integrated leaf shutter with 1 - 1/500th sec shutter speed.
Also included with the 503CX are two film backs; one 1980's version A12 and one Magazine 12. These are the classic magazines for shooting 120 film in a Hasselblad.
Load the A12 by threading the film and advancing the film until the arrow on the paper backing points to the red triangle on the spool holder. Then simply close the back and turn the film advance crank until it stops automatically at frame "1". Use the red progress bar on the left side to monitor film consumption. Turn the toothed ring to set ASA on the film reminder, and you can flip it open to add a film box cover.
The Magazine 12 is loaded slightly differently. There are no arrows to line up. Instead thread the film and close the back. Open the rear film reminder cover to see the film's backing paper, flip out the winding crank, and wind it until you see the first "1" on the film backing. Close the film reminder cover and rotate the crank counterclockwise (backwards) which clicks the number "1" into the window below the crank. You set film speed as a reminder on the back, as well as film type. There are icons for B&W, and for four kinds of colour film; positive, negative, tungsten and daylight.
