Portrait-length Prime Lens
A portrait-length prime lens, the FE 85mm f/1.8 from Sony is designed for use with full-frame E-mount mirrorless cameras, however can also be used on APS-C models where it will provide a 127.5mm equivalent focal length. A bright maximum aperture of f/1.8 makes it well-suited to working in low-light conditions and with shallow depth of field techniques, ideal for portraiture. A rounded nine-blade diaphragm produces pleasing out of focus 'bokeh' areas.
The optical design uses nine elements in eight groups and includes one extra-low dispersion element to minimise chromatic aberrations and colour fringing for enhanced clarity and colour accuracy. Benefitting the optical design is a simple, intuitive physical layout that incorporates a customisable focus hold button for easy control over the precise focus position. A double linear AF motor provides quick, quiet, and smooth focusing performance, with manual focus available for fine-tuned control.
