14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art for Leica L
Wide-angle Prime Lens for Leica L-mount
A fast, wide-angle prime lens, the Leica L-mount 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Arts from Sigma is set to capture impressively sharp images with a broad field of view. Well-suited to astrophotography and low-light outdoor shooting, it is designed for use with full-frame Leica L mount mirrorless cameras, and is also compatible with APS-C models where it will provide a 21mm equivalent focal length.
As part of Sigma’s Art series of lenses, it is built to achieve outstanding optical performance. The optical design uses three F Low Dispersion (FLD) and four Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass elements to minimise chromatic aberrations and colour fringing. Four aspherical elements, including the front large-diameter precision-molded glass element, help to further reduce distortion and spherical aberrations for improved sharpness and accuracy. A Super Multi-Layer Coating has also been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for greater contrast when working in strong lighting conditions.
These impressive optics are matched with an integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) for fast, smooth and quiet autofocus performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus override at any time simply by rotating the focus ring.
The lens is finished with a robust lens barrel constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite material, and the lens mount is constructed from brass for long-term durability and mounting accuracy. Rubber sealing ensures the mount is dust and splash-resistant. The lens is also compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuned control over focusing parameters and other lens characteristics, as well as updating its firmware.
