The NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S from Nikon is a
standard-length zoom covering a wide-angle to portrait-length range for
Nikon's FX-format Z-series mirrorless system. Its bright constant
f/2.8 maximum aperture ensures consistent results throughout the zoom
range and also benefits working in low light conditions while offering
increased control over depth of field. The optical design uses four aspherical elements to reduce spherical
aberrations and distortion, while two extra-low dispersion elements
reduce colour fringing and chromatic aberrations. ARNEO, Nano Crystal
and Super Integrated Coatings are also used to suppress flare and
ghosting for sharp images with accurate colour.
A multi-focus system uses two stepping motors to provide fast, quiet,
and precise autofocus performance that is well-suited to both stills
and video applications. Full-time manual focus override is also
available, and an internal focusing design maintains the overall lens
length, benefitting focusing speeds. An electromagnetic aperture
mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is
particularly useful when working with fast continuous shooting rates,
and a rounded nine-blade diaphragm produces attractive out of focus
areas. A programmable control ring is set to adjust manual focus by default,
but can also be set to control aperture or exposure compensation. The
lens barrel is both dust and moisture resistant and incorporates a top
OLED information panel that can be used to quickly confirm aperture and
focus settings, and an assignable L.Fn button permits making exposure
and settings adjustments via the lens.
