The 5.5 stops of optical image stabilization further aid handheld use by compensating for camera shake. In situations where extra stability is required, the tripod collar foot is Arca-Swiss compatible for use with tripods and monopods.
The optical design comprises five extra-low dispersion elements and two super extra-low dispersion elements, which help to reduce distortions and color aberrations typically found in lenses of this length. The 21-element, 14-group optical design delivers the sharpness and clarity necessary when shooting with 40.2MP X-series sensors, while the rounded, 9-blade diaphragm delivers a smooth and rounded bokeh that's further augmented by the spatial compression inherent in super telephoto focal lengths.
