The first GR Series camera was launched in October 1996 and ever since the system has been the quintessential snapshot camera. In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the series, Ricoh is releasing a special limited-edition 30th Anniversary Edition Kit of the exceptionally popular GR IV. The shutter release buttons and rear buttons are finished in a special color inspired by the plated finished used on the original film GR1. A special power-off graphic with a GR 30th anniversary design is displayed with the camera is turned off. A ring cap "GN-3 (30th)" with a diamond-cut design inspired by the design of the GR1 lens area is fitted as an exclusive accessory. The diamond-cut surfaces catch light only when the lens is retracted (with the power off), while the ring cap is specially designed so that reflections do not appear on the subject during shooting. A genuine leather finger strap is included as an exclusive accessory. This is a special design with "30th ANNIVERSARY" engraved on its reverse side. The finger strap takes up very little space when stored or carried. A special-edition metal hot shoe cover "GK-2 (30th)" in steel gray is also included as an exclusive accessory. The 30th anniversary logo is engraved on the front, and "RICOH GR" on the reverse, making this an exclusive item that enhances the appearance of the camera.
Deemed "the ultimate snap shooter," the Ricoh GR IV is the latest installment in the popular compact fixed-lens camera series characterized by impressive image quality, a sharp prime lens, and supreme portability. This GR IV brings a new 25.7MP BSI CMOS sensor, redesigned 28mm-equivalent lens, improved AF and Shake Reduction, more built-in memory, a new battery, and updates to specialized focusing and shooting modes. Additionally, there is an all-new dedicated GR WORLD app for wireless settings control and image sharing. Featuring a new sensor and processor, the GR IV sports a 25.7MP APS-C CMOS sensor with a back-illuminated design for cleaner image quality and reduced noise. This sensor pairs with the updated GR ENGINE 7 processor that helps to achieve a full stop better low-light performance along with a faster 0.6-sec startup time, quicker focusing performance, up to ISO 204800, and the same versatile 14-bit DNG and JPEG recording as its predecess.
One of the key upgrades of the GR IV is faster focusing performance. Aided by the new GR ENGINE 7 processing and a redesigned lens that's lighter in weight, AF performance is more responsive than its predecessor, focusing hunting is greatly reduced, and both face recognition and subject tracking have been improved. Additionally, pairing with the improved low-light image quality, low-light focusing is also faster and more accurate for shooting in difficult lighting conditions. During autofocus shooting, this AF system detects the subject's face or eye with precision, focuses on it, and indicates the in-focus position on the LCD display using the AF frame. When the camera detects multiple faces, it automatically distinguishes the main subject from secondary ones and indicates this on the focus frame. Full Press Snap function lets you override the AF in an instant by fully depressing the shutter button and having the lens immediately focus at a preset distance. This unique shooting and focusing function is perfect for street photography and eliminates any lag times for decisive moment-type shooting.
