SL2 + 24-70mm f/2.8 Vario-Elmarit-SL ASPH
Full Frame Mirrorless Camera Body & Wide-angle to Short Telephoto Zoom Lens
This full frame mirrorless camera kit consists of the Leica SL2 and the Leica 24-70mm f/2.8 Vario-Elmarit-SL ASPH.
The made-in-Germany SL2 from Leica is the second generation SL camera that brings together impressive photo and video specifications that are housed in a refined design. The pair of a full-frame 47.3MP CMOS sensor and the Maestro III image processor achieves optimised detail rendition and image quality with a wide 14-stop dynamic range, suppressed noise levels through a sensitivity range of ISO 50-50000, and processing capabilities that yield fast full-resolution continuous shooting up to 20fps with an electronic shutter, as well as 6fps shooting with a mechanical shutter and AF-C. As a capable video camera, SL2 features up to 5K video with 10-bit colour sampling and at up to 30fps; high-speed recording modes for UHD 4K60 video and Full HD 180fps, both with 30fps playback, respectively offer 2x and 6x slower motion. In addition, a dedicated Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) Photo Style mode and L-Log gamma profile is available for expanding highlight and shadow details and offering greater flexibility during colour grading.
Accerated and accurate autofocus performance is afforded by the SL2, thanks to the Leica Object Detection AF system which speedily calculates subject distances and adjusts focusing position. This contrast-detection type focus method is benefical to both still and video recording modes, as well as subject tracking applications via the use of a Body Detection mode. Furthermore, it features 225 selectable AF areas, providing impressive control over where the camera will focus. A 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilisation helps to achieve utmost sharpness during handheld photography, as well as enables a Multishot mode that can be utilised to capture and compile eight separate exposure to create a single highly detailed and colour accurate 187MP RAW or JPEG file.
Complementing the imaging capabilities, the SL2 features an updated body design, including an impressive high-resolution 5.67m-dot EyeRes OLED electronic viewfinder that offers a clear 0.78x configurable viewing magnification, a smooth 120fps refresh rate, 0.005sec lag, and a 10,000:1 contrast ratio. A large durable 3.2" 2.1m-dot touchscreen LCD provides for a bright, clear means for live view shooting, playback, and menu navigation whilst an additional 1.28" top status LCD enables quick review of shooting settings, whether the camera is powered on or off. Built for durability, the rear LCD features Gorrilla Glass and the weather-sealed magnesium-alloy chassis is splash-, dust-, and freeze-proof for operation in harsh weather condition and trying environment. Designed with file saving flexibility in mind, the SL2 features dual UHS-II-compatible SD memory card slots. Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enables wireless file transferring and remote camera control via the Leica FOTOs app. Alternatively, a USB Type-C port is also available for fast file transferring, as well as high-speed in-camera battery charging. An incorporation of an HDMI Type A port benefits video applications whilst the 3.5mm microphone and headphone jacks provide for advanced audio recording needs.
A lithium-ion battery, a battery charger, a camera cover, and a camera strap are supplied with the Leica SL2.
The accompanying Leica 24-70mm f/2.8 Vario-Elmarit-SL ASPH is a wide-angle to portrait length zoom lens designed for full-frame L-mount mirrorless cameras. The versatile focal length range is complemented by the marked sharpness and clarity across all f-stops and focus distances of the lens, thanks to the incorporation of three aspherical elements that reduces chromatic and spherical aberrations. The moderately bright f/2.8 maximum aperture is beneficial for working in a variety of lighting conditions as well as offers greater control when working with shallow depth of field techniques. A quiet and precise autofocus motor suits both stills and video applications. The robust metal construction of the lens is compact and lightweight as the OIS is omitted. Weather sealing enhances the durability of the lens and provide protection when working in harsher environments and inclement weather conditions.
