The Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM is a compact and lightweight normal-length lens designed for use with full-frame Canon RF-mount mirrorless cameras. Ideal for everyday, walkabout shooting, its also features a minimum focus distance of 30mm for close-focusing shots. A bright f/1.8 maximum apertures enables shooting in dimmer conditions as well as greater depth of field control. Optically the lens design utilises a precision-molded (PMo) aspherical element to minimise spherical aberrations and distortion to improve sharpness and subject rendering. Additionally. a Super Spectra coating has been applied to the lens elements to reduce backlit flaring and ghosting in harsher lighting condition for greater contrast and colour neutrality. This prime lens employs a STM stepping focus motor for fast, accurate, and quiet focusing performance that benefits both stills and video applications. Full-time manual focus control is also available. For flexibility, a configurable control ring can be used for adjusting a variety exposure settings. The lens features a rounded seven-blade diaphragm that contributes to a pleasing out of focus effect.
