The EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM from Canon is a popular and versatile L-series zoom lens, featuring a useful wide-angle to portrait length zoom range. Designed for use with full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, it can also be used with APS-C models where it will provide a 38.4-112mm equivalent focal length range. This is combined with a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture that makes it well-suited to working in low-light conditions and with shallow depth of field techniques.
The optical design uses one Super UD lens element and two UD lens elements to minimise chromatic aberration and reduce colour blurring around the edges of your subject. Three aspherical elements are also featured to minimise distortion and spherical aberrations for improved sharpness. A rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques. Additionally, a Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to control flare and ghosting for high contrast and neutral colour fidelity.
The lens is finished with a ring-type USM and internal focusing mechanism for quick, quiet, and accurate autofocus performance, as well as full-time manual focus override. It is also weather-sealed and has a protective fluorine coating on the exposed elements helps to reduce fingerprints and smudges, making cleaning these elements significantly easier. A zoom lock lever secures the zoom position at the wide end to maintain a compact form factor and protect the lens when not in use.
