Versatile Zoom Lens for Canon EF-mount
Covering a range of focal lengths from wide-angle to portrait, the Canon EF-mount 24-70mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM from Sigma is a versatile zoom lens ideal for working with a variety of subjects. The constant f/2.8 maximum aperture ensures consistent performance throughout the zoom range, and makes it well-suited to working with shallow depth of field techniques. Designed for use with full-frame-format Canon EF-mount DSLRs, it can also be used with APS-C models where it will provide a 38.4-112mm equivalent focal length range.
As part of Sigma’s Art series of lenses, it is built to achieve outstanding optical performance. The optical design incorporates three Special Low Dispersion elements and four aspherical elements to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations, colour fringing and distortions, for impressive clarity and sharpness. A Super Multi-Layer Coating has also been applied to reduce lens flare and ghosting for greater contrast when working in strong lighting conditions, and the front element features a protective water- and oil-repellent coating to benefit working in harsh climates. A rounded nine-blade diaphragm produces smooth out-of-focus ‘bokeh’ areas.
These impressive optics are matched with an integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) for fast, smooth and quiet autofocus performance. For even finer control over focus position, this HSM permits full-time manual focus override at any time simply by rotating the focus ring. An Optical Stabiliser is also included to benefit handheld shooting by minimising the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery.
The lens is finished with a robust lens barrel constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite material, and the lens mount is constructed from brass for long-term durability and mounting accuracy. Rubber sealing ensures the mount is dust and splash-resistant. The lens is also compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuned control over focusing parameters and other lens characteristics, as well as updating its firmware.
