Refined optics come together with a convenient lightweight design in this Canon EF-mount 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM lens from Sigma. A telephoto zoom lens designed for use with full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, it can also be used with APS-C models where it will provide a 160-640mm equivalent focal length range. As part of the Contemporary line within Sigma's Global Vision series of lenses, it achieves a balance between convenience and performance.
Four SLD glass elements are featured in the optical design, and work to control colour fringing and chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range for improved clarity and colour accuracy. A Super Multi-Layer Coating has also been applied to lens elements to enhance image quality by suppressing lens flare and ghosting, and the front lens element has been treated with a water- and oil-repellent coating. This is complimented by a rounded nine-blade diaphragm to produce attractive out of focus areas.
Alongside these imaging capabilities, the lens uses an integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) for quick, smooth, and quiet autofocus performance with full-time manual focus override. An Optical Stabiliser also benefits handheld shooting by minimising the appearance of camera shake for sharper images.
All this is housed inside a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) lens body, a material that offers professional durability in a wide range of working environments. Both twist and push-pull zoom mechanisms are available for improved control, and the bayonet mount is constructed from brass for ensured accuracy and durability. Additionally, rubber sealing is incorporated in the mount design to render it dust- and splash-resistant.
Match this lens with the optional TC-1401 and TC-2001 Teleconverters to effectively extend the reach of the lens to 140-560mm f/7-9 or 200-800mm f/10-12.6, respectively. This lens is also compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.
