The Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM is a portrait length to medium telephoto zoom lens that is versatile and relatively lightweight and compact. While this 70-300mm is designed for full frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, it can also be used with APS-C models where it provides an equivalent focal length range of 112-480mm. 

For increased clarity and colour fidelity, the optical layout of this 15 elements in 10 groups lens features an ultra-low dispersion glass element to reduce colour fringing and chromatic aberrations. Additionally, invidividual elements are coated with Super Spectra to reduce ghosting and flare, enabling higher contrast and colour neutrality when working in harsher lighting conditions.

The inclusion of an Optical Image Stabliser, which aids in minimising the effects of camera shake up to three shutter speed stops, improves image performance during handheld shooting and when working in dimmer conditions and/or with slower shutter speed. Two modes are made available for the image stablisation, one for the standard single-shot and another for panning. Furthermore, a micro Ultrasonic Motor (USM) is utilised to provide fast, accurate and quiet auto focus performance that benefits both photo and video applications. Switch with ease to manual focus at anytime with the USM. Lastly, this Canon lens also features a rounded eight-blade diaphragm which contributes to a pleasing quality in the out of focus areas when using shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

For additional user friendliness, a zoom lock switch is included that be used to maintain the lens at its most compact 70mm focal length position when not in use.
