Its use of the 9-colour LUCIA PRO ink system enables production of quality colour and black-and-white colour prints with detailed gradations and a wide colour gamut. The addition of the Matte Black Ink achieves deeper black levels on fine art paper while the Chroma Optimizer enhances glossiness, flattens the print surface, and expands colour on glossy paper. For your convenience, the Matte Black Ink and Photo Black Ink have separate ink nozzles which eliminate the need to switch the inks out.

Ideal for gallery photo and studio photo printing, this Canon printer utilises the L-COA PRO image engine that is capable of processing large volumes of image data speedily. An integrated 3.0" Colour LCD display allows you to keep track of ink levels, printer status, and more. Nozzle Recovery System and Skew Correction are featured in this printer for even greater ease of use. When required, its FINE Print Head is user replaceable.

This printer offers the option of printing via Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or USB; you can also print images sent easily from your mobile device via the Canon PRINT app. Compatibility with other apps and plugins, like AirPrint, Canon Print Service (for Android only), Easy-PhotoPrinter Editor app, Google Cloud Print, Mopria Print Service, and Cloud Link makes this an even more versatile printer. You can also make use of Canon's Professional Print & Layout (PPL) software, an intuitive interface, which aids in finding the correct print settings. The PPL can be used as a standalone app or as a plugin for Canon Digital Photo Professional, Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, or Photoshop Elements.
