The Nikon AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED Lens is a macro lens offering a 1:1 (life-size) ratio of magnification, combined with the benefits of vibration reduction (VR). When using a macro lens, any camera movement is also magnified, so image stabilization is critical. Nikon's vibration reduction system stabilizes the image to the equivalent stability of a shutter speed that is 4 stops faster when compared with a conventional lens. This in effect eliminates image blur caused by camera shake, particularly when shooting in low-light conditions.
It offers high-resolution, high-optical performance for both digital FX and DX and 35mm film format Nikon SLR cameras. When used with cameras with an APS-C size sensor, the equivalent focal length is 157.5mm. An internal focus system means only the internal lens groups move during focusing, allowing a close working distance, and a Silent Wave Motor (SWM) autofocus motor ensures fast and near-silent autofocus. Full time manual focus override is also available, just by turning the focus ring.
Optically one Extra-low Dispersion glass element works to control chromatic aberrations, while Super Integrated and Nano Crystal lens coatings have been applied to the elements for enhanced light transmission and reduced ghosting and flare. This is complimented by a rounded 9 blade diaphragm that produces smooth out-of-focus 'bokeh' areas.
