The black Leica D-LUX (Typ 109) Digital Camera is a compact point and shoot camera with a 12.8MP 4/3" MOS sensor for greater control over depth of field, and improved low-light performance. It uses a bright, optically-stabilized DC Vario-Summilux f/1.7-2.8 lens, and has an ISO range expandable from 100 to 25,600. It is a highly capable camera and excels in a range of stills photography applications, including macro shots, street photography, photojournalism and landscape photography.

It is also able to capture high-resolution video, with NTSC or PAL UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) output at 30p or 24p, which can be saved as easy-to-use MP4 files. Alternatively, 1080p full HD or standard definition video can be selected instead, and recording of any resolution can be played back on the camera's large, sharp 3.0" 921k-dot rear LCD display. While capturing video, it is also possible to use the camera's 2764k integrated electronic viewfinder to compose your shots.

Stills and video can be saved onto SD-type cards, though the D-LUX (Typ 109) has Integrated Near Field Communication (NFC) capability and built-in Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, allowing images to be sent from your camera to your mobile device via the Leica Image Shuttle app. In addition, the app can generate a live image from the camera and allow you to control camera settings.

All these are housed inside a robust black metal exterior, with tactile buttons and dials for ease of use.
