A stylish and versatile rangefinder mirrorless digital camera, the X-E3 from Fujifilm features an updated sensor and processor inside a familiar body. It uses a 24.3MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS III sensor that has omitted an optical low-pass filter, and an X-Processor Pro image processor to capture sharp, high-resolution images. In comparison to conventional pixel patterns, the X-Trans design more closely mimics the organic nature of film in order to produce nuanced colours and smooth tonal transitions, while also reducing moiré and aliasing.
Together this impressive sensor and processor combination also provides a continuous shooting rate up to 14 fps, an extended sensitivity range to ISO 51200, and the ability to record UHD 4K/30 video or Full HD 1080p/60 video. When recording images or video, Film Simulation modes can be used to creatively enhance your footage. Video can also be output via HDMI to an external recorder or monitor, and a mic jack is featured for working with an external microphone.
Benefitting these features, optimised continuous autofocus performance provides improved subject tracking and focusing accuracy. Using both contrast- and phase-detection methods, the hybrid autofocus system features 91 total points, which can be divided into 325 total areas. Approximately 50% side-to-side and 75% top-to-bottom of the frame is covered by phase-detection points. A dedicated Focus Lever provides faster, more intuitive control over selecting specific focus points while shooting.
The camera is finished with the same classic physical design of its predecessor, with physical shutter speed and exposure compensation dials. This physical exposure compensation dial now features a C position to allow an expanded compensation range when working with the control dials. Compose your images using the high-resolution 2.36m-dot electronic viewfinder or 3.0" 1.04m-dot rear touchscreen LCD that also offers focus point selection and menu navigation. Built-in WiFi with Bluetooth connectivity is also included for low-power image transferring and remote camera control from a linked mobile device.
Here the X-E3 is kitted with the XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR Lens from Fujifilm, a weather-sealed lens with a 35mm equivalent focal length of 24-82.5mm, making it a versatile standard-length zoom that's ready to handle changing weather conditions. A constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 aperture lends itself to working in low light conditions and gives you control over focus placement with its shallow depth of field.
Internal focusing and the Twin Linear Motor AF system ensures autofocus is fast and near silent, while 17 elements in 12 groups with three extra-low dispersion (ED) elements and three aspherical elements work to eliminate chromatic and spherical aberations and distortion. Nano-GI and HT-EBC coating minimise surface reflections, and prevent lens flare and ghosting.
The lens barrel incorporates 14 distinct weather seals, making it both moisture and dust resistant, and a 9-blade circular diaphragm renders pleasing out-of-focus 'bokeh' areas. By combining this lens with select X-Series camera bodies with Lens Modulation Optimiser (LMO) technology, the performance from the lens is improved even further. LMO corrects for diffraction to produce images with edge-to-edge sharpness and create a realistic three-dimensional effect, even at small apertures.
