The Leica Elmarit-S 45mm f/2.8 ASPH Lens is a wide-angle prime lens designed for the Leica S-series medium format digital cameras. With a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 36mm, it is particularly suited to photojournalism, architecture, landscape, and fashion photography. A maximum aperture of f/2.8 makes it ideal for working in low lighting conditions, and allows for selective control of depth of field.

The CS version of this lens uses an integrated central shutter within the lens to aid working with high-speed flash sync at any shutter speed, up to the maximum of 1/1000 sec.

It features three elements with anomalous partial dispersion glass and two high refraction extra-low dispersion elements, with one aspherical surface element, to minimizes monochromatic and chromatic aberrations for overall image clarity. Rear-group focusing and one independent floating optical element maintain a constant lens length, ensuring precise focus from infinity to its minimum focus distance of 60 cm.

Weather sealing protects the lens from dust and splashes and an included retractable lens hood is available to minimize light flares.
