The Hasselblad 501C is a mechanical medium format, single-lens reflex camera package, comprising of the 501C camera body, focusing hood, Planar C 80mm f/2.8 lens, ZEISS Distagon T 50mm f/4 FLE CF Lens, Zeiss 150mm f/4Sonnar T✻, A12, 16 film magazine, Polaplus Back and case.
50mm f/4 - There are two versions of the 50mm CF Distagon. In the period 1982-89 a conventional design was used to but in 1989 a modified design using a floating lens element (FLE) was introduced. This design also had a changed diaphragm with the minimum aperture being f/32. The 50mm f/4 CF FLE has a separate ring for adjusting internal elements to focus range used.
80mm f/2.8 - This is a variant of the 80CF introduced with the 501C in 1994. It is supplied with the front cap. It is different from the CF lenses in that the f-stop and shutter speed rings are not independently movable except by pressing a detent.
150mm f/4 - The next major change in the evolution of the 150mm lens was in 1982 with the change from Compur to Prontor shutters which occurred along with a redesign of the lens barrel. The 150 is a favourite of many photographers because of a combination of balance of the camera and the perspective. It has a reasonable maximum aperture at f/4 and this is often a significant advantage over the f/5.6 lenses. The CF version of the 150mm lens is the most popular second choice for lenses by Hasselblad photographers. It is easily handholdable and easier to focus in the CF version with the wide rubber grip.
