Action Video Camera
Doubling the performance of the Hero5, the Hero6 Black from GoPro provides improved processing power while keeping the now-familiar physical body of its predecessor. The Hero6 uses a new GP1 chip to achieve higher frame rates in 1080p HD, 2.7K, and 60 fps in 4K, 2x the max 30 fps of previous models. This makes it possible to capture smooth motion and slow motion with slower frame rates. Other processor-intensive tasks have also been boosted by this update, including improved image stabilisation, and night photo modes offer impressive low-light performance.
Video can be recorded in UHD 4K resolution up to 60 fps or in lower resolutions such as 1080p and 720p for access to higher frame rates, more FOV (Field of View) options, and electronic stabilisation. In 2.7K widescreen and lower resolutions narrower FOV options are available, including Medium, Narrow, and the new Linear mode (only available in 2.7K and 1080p settings), which corrects the lens's barrel distortion. Automatic exposure and manual exposure control are both available, allowing you to work quickly, or with complete control.
The Hero6 Black uses 3 microphones to capture audio with advanced wind-noise reduction. In normal conditions, the HERO6 Black will process the audio for a stereo signal. If high winds start affecting the audio, the HERO6 Black can intuit which microphone is picking up the best sound and automatically switch to that microphone in real-time to filter out any excess wind noise. While the audio will only be in mono, you will know that you're getting the highest possible audio quality.
A variety of Photo Modes are also available for still image capture. In addition to standard JPEG capture, the Hero6 Black can also capture raw images in the .GPR format. There is also a WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) mode for better highlight and shadow balance, and burst and time-lapse modes. In burst mode up to 30 photos can be captured in a single bust, with durations from six seconds to one second.
The Hero6 Black features the same robust, rubberised exterior of the Hero5 and is waterproof without a housing down to 10 metres (33ft). It can also be paired with the separately available Super Suit housing for deeper dives. And of course, the frame features GoPro's standard 2-prong accessory interface, with a mounting buckle quick-release for The Frame and includes two adhesive mounts (one curved and one straight).
The back of the camera is finished with a 2" touchscreen LCD for fast menu navigation. After you have selected your settings, you can switch to one-button interface for fast starting and stopping recording. The Hero6 also responds to simple voice commands, allowing hands-free control over start and stop recording, taking a photo, shooting a burst of photos, and more.
GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity are built-in, and the Hero6 Black is the first Hero with 5 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity, for faster video transfer times compared to 2.4 GHz available on previous models. GoPro and Quik apps allow you to access and edit your GoPro footage. Quik Stories combines the functionality of both apps, automatically downloading GoPro footage from your HERO6 and composing an easily shareable montage.
