The Sony FE 135mm f/1.8 G Master lens is designed to achieve remarkably high resolution and sharpness through correcting a broad range of chromatic and spherical aberrations. In addition, both photography and cine application are well supported by physical designs that are robust and intutitive when handling.
The sophistication of this medium telephoto prime is matched by its ability to isolate. In challenging dim conditions, its bright f/1.8 maximum aperture literally shines in its performance. It also provides increased depth of field control when working with selective focus techniques. The optical design is advanced with two extra-low dispersion elements incorporated. The Super ED element reduces chromatic aberrations and colour fringing for improvement in colour neutrality and clarity. The XA (extreme aspherical) element, on the other hand, contributes to an impressive degree of image sharpbess and clarity by significantly controlling spherical aberrations, which includes field curvatures, coma and astigmatism. For working in harsher lighting conditions, an application of a Nano coating reduces ghosting and lens flare to offer greater contrast and colour fidelity.
In complement to the optical assets, a rounded 11-blade circular diaphragm is included for production of smooth, soft-edge bokeh when employing specific focus imagery. An XD Linear Motor system and internal focus mechanism provide for an autofocus performance that is rapid, silent and precise, along with a manual focus that is more natural and intuitive. WIth the AF/MF switch and two customisable focus hold buttons located on the lens barrel, users have tactile control and increased access over various settings. Advantageous for video applicatios, the physical aperture ring can be de-clicked for switching the aperture smoothly and quietly. The FE 135mm f/1.8 GM lens is also dust- and moisture- sealed to enable working in inclement conditions. For benefitting handling in colder temperatures, the control rings are rubberised. The fluorine-coated front element is dusted and moisture resistant and provides for easy cleaning of fingerprints. This prime lens is APS-C compatible, offering a 202.5mm equivalent focal length.
