The AF 18mm f/2.8 FE lens from Samyang is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras; it provides a 27mm equivalent focal length when used with APS-C models. The f/2.8 maximum aperture supports a compact and lightweight design, and is fast and bright to suit working in a variety of lighting conditions. The rectilinear ultra wide-angle design offers a corrected broad field of view of 100° that is well-suited for landscape, architecture, and interior photography, along with astrophotography applications.

Optically, the AF 18mm f/2.8 FE lens features a 9 elements in 8 groups design which includes 3 aspherical elements, 2 high refractive index elements, and 3 low dispersion elements to control spherical abberrations, chromatic abberrations, and distortions for improved sharpness and accurate rendering. Furthermore, the individual elements have been applied with an Ultra Mulit-Coating to reduce flare and ghosting for greater contrast and colour balance neutrality.

A integrated linear Stepper Motor (STM) autofocus motor complements the focusing systems of compatible Sony cameras to deliver fast, silent, and accurate autofocus (AF) control. For refined focus control, manual focus override is available. Additionally, interior focusing design maintains overall lens length and eliminates rotation of the front of the lens during use. A lens hood is supplied to block out stray light entering from the front to further prevent flare and ghosting.
