Lumix S1 + Lumix S 24-105mm f/4 Macro OIS Kit
Full Frame Mirrorless Digital Camera with Wide to Telephoto Lens
In a first from Panasonic, the Lumix DC-S1 is a full-frame mirrorless camera that features a 24.2MP MOS sensor and Venus Engine to capture sharp and colour-accurate images, as well as video up to 4K60p. This sensor and processor work together to offer an expanded sensitivity of ISO 100 to 51200, 9 fps continuous shooting rate, and the sensor also uses an advanced DFD (Depth-From-Defocus) contrast-detection autofocus system for quick and precise focusing and subject tracking. Additionally, sensor-shift image stabilisation helps to minimise the appearance of camera shake by 5.5 stops for sharper handheld shooting.
You'll be able to record UHD 4K30p with full-pixel readout, 4:2:0 10-bit colour, and unlimited shooting times, as well as 4K60p for up to 29:59. HDR video recording is possible using the dedicated Hybrid Log Gamma mode, and a firmware update will be available to add 4:2:2 10-bit internal recording along with V-Log. It is also possible to record to an optional external recorder via the HDMI Type A port, with support for an external microphone and headphones via dedicated 3.5mm jacks.
The DFD (Depth-From-Defocus) technology quickly calculates the distance to subjects and adjusts the focusing position in as little as 0.08 seconds, with sensor and lens communication at rates up to 480 fps. This focus method benefits both still and video recording modes, as well as subject tracking applications. It also features 225 AF areas, and a Low Light AF feature enables accurate AF performance down to -6 EV.
Alternatively, if you prefer to use manual focus, you'll appreciate the inclusion of focus peaking that works to highlight bright edges of contrast with a coloured outline, allowing you to quickly recognise your focus point. Touch MF Assist is also available for touch-to-focus operation. Other AF features include an AF Point Scope setting that temporarily magnifies the subject by 3x to 10x for confirmation of the focus position and a custom selectable AF zone for Multi AF / Custom Multi AF.
Physically, the camera has a high resolution 5.76m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder along with a 3.2" 2.1m-dot triaxial tilt touchscreen LCD for composing and reviewing your imagery from a range of angles and orientations. Live View Boost is a dedicated viewing mode for working in low-light conditions, where the viewing sensitivity can be increased to aid in composing your image, and a Night mode also benefits working in dark conditions by lowering the screen's backlight intensity.
Its magnesium-alloy body is weather-sealed and finished with a top status LCD for reviewing your settings. XQD and SD card slots provide flexible storage capabilities, allowing you to segregate raw and JPEG files to different cards, save duplicate files to both cards, or simply double your storage space with overflow recording. Additional Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity make it possible to control the camera remotely and wirelessly transfer your images to compatible devices.
The body features an L lens mount which offers a versatile mount diameter of 51.6mm and a flange distance of 20mm for working with a broad range of optics. The included DMW-BLJ31 rechargeable lithium-ion battery is rated for approximately 380-400 shots per charge when working with the rear monitor, 360-380 shots per charge with the EVF, and 1100-1150 shots per charge when Power Save LVF mode is on.
Here the S1 is kitted with the Lumix S 24-105mm f/4 Macro O.I.S. from Panasonic, a versatile zoom lens for L-mount mirrorless cameras, featuring a constant f/4 maximum aperture. It can also be used with APS-C models where it will provide a 36-157.5mm equivalent focal length range.
Optically, the lens uses four aspherical elements, including two of extra-low dispersion glass, to reduce distortion and aberrations throughout the zoom range, and a rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality. It offers a 1:2 half life-size magnification ratio and a minimum focusing distance of 30cm. This is complimented by an Optical Image Stabiliser that works to combat the effects of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting, and also supports 5-Axis Dual I.S. 2 for increased stabilisation performance.
An AF/MF switch makes it easy to switch between focusing modes and a zoom lock switch can be used to prevent the lens from extending when not in use. It is finished with a weather-sealed splash, dust, and freezeproof design that benefits working in difficult weather conditions down to -14°F.
