AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4E FL ED VR
Telephoto Lens for Nikon FX Format
The AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4E FL ED VR from Nikon is an impressive telephoto lens designed for use with Nikon FX-format DSLRs. It is also compatible with DX sensors where it will provide a 750mm equivalent focal length.
The sophisticated optical design incorporates two fluorite and three extra-low dispersion elements to control chromatic aberrations and distortions, while also reducing the overall weight of the lens. Nano Crystal and Super Integrated Coatings have also been applied to the lens elements to lessen flare and ghosting for improved contrast, clarity, and colour. An internal focusing design maintains the overall lens length during operation and further contributes to a lighter overall weight, as well as a minimum focusing distance of 3.63 m.
A Silent Wave Motor AF system ensures focusing is fast and near-silent for both stills shooting and movie recording and can instantly be manually overridden at any time by simply turning the manual focus ring. VR (Vibration Reduction) image stabilisation compensates for the effects of camera shake by up to four shutter speed steps and an electromagnetic aperture mechanism is integrated into the lens design to provide greater exposure control stability which is particularly beneficial when working with faster continuous shooting rates. A designated Sport Mode further benefits working in fast-paced conditions and a Tripod Mode helps to reduce subtle ground vibrations when working with a support system.
All this is complimented by a protective front flourine-coated meniscus glass element and a weather-resistant magnesium alloy lens barrel. A removable monopod collar is also included with the lens for balanced support when working with a monopod or tripod. This collar ring incorporates ball bearings for smooth transitions between horizontal and vertical shooting orientations.
