Neutral Density 6.0 Filter (20 Stop)
The 150 x 150mm SW150 Solar Stopper from LEE Filters is a Neutral Density 6.0 filter with a 1,050,000x filter factor for a 20 stop exposure reduction. Designed to significantly darken the entire image, it is ideal for solar photography. When shooting a solar eclipse, even the lowest ISOs and fastest shutter speeds result in overexposed, blown-out images. As a result, a specialised filter is required to bring the exposure range down to manageable levels. The Solar Stopper is designed especially for photographing solar eclipses or the surface of the sun.
The filter is constructed from optical glass for impressive clarity and accurate colour, however it has an intentional blue cast to remove some of the sun's harmful infrared rays - this can be corrected in postproduction. When combined with a compatible LEE filters SW150 filter holder featuring an integrated or add-on Lightshield, a built-in gasket helps to prevent unwanted light from coming in between the filter and the lens. To avoid light leaks, the filter must be placed into the slot closest to the lens, with the foam seal facing the camera's backplate. It comes with a metal filter case for storage and transport.
Please note: Never look through the filter directly at the sun, as there is a risk of severe eye damage. Protect eyes by using live view or an electronic viewfinder to setup your composition and watch the eclipse. It is also recommended to turn your camera off when not active as prolonged exposure to the sun can damage the sensor even with the filter in place.
