D5200 (body only)
24 megapixel DSLR
The D5200 is an enthusiast level DSLR, and features a variety of technologies that enable you to capture fantastic images. First and foremost is the 24 megapixel sensor. That high pixel count creates fantastically detailed images, and its ISO range of 100-6400 lets you shoot in dark settings with ease, and can even be expanded to ISO 25600 for even more extreme situations.
The autofocus in the D5200 is provided by a 39 point sensor, the same one as used in the D7000. It provides quick and consistent focusing, covers most of the frame, and has nine cross-type AF points. Metering is done with a 2016 pixel RGB sensor, which not only provides excellent exposure, but also works in concert with the AF sensor for accurate subject tracking.
New to this class of camera is an improved Auto ISO mode, borrowed from Nikon's high-end D800. This new Auto ISO algorithm accounts for the current focal length, and sets the minimum shutter speed accordingly. This eliminates motion blur when shooting with long telephoto lenses.
The D5200 also improves movie mode, and gives you full control over all shooting parameters, including shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. It also has stereo microphones, whose gain can be adjusted manually.
For comfortable handling, this camera uses an articulating LCD with 921000 dots. This makes shooting video or composing with Live View easy, even when shooting low to the ground or high above your head.
Overall, the D5200 puts advanced technologies into a body that is compact and lightweight, making this camera a very high value for most users.
