16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens: Leica L
Wide Angle Prime Lens
This 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens from Sigma is a wide-angle 24mm-equivalent prime lens for Leica L-mount mirrorless cameras. Featuring a bright maximum aperture of f/1.4, it is well-suited to working in low-light conditions and also offers increased control over depth of field.
The optical design uses three FLD elements, two SLD elements, and two molded aspherical elements to reduce colour fringing, chromatic aberrations, and spherical aberrations for notable sharpness, clarity, and colour accuracy throughout the aperture range. Sigma's Super Multi-Layer Coating has also been applied to individual elements to suppress flare and ghosting for greater contrast and colour fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions. Lastly, a rounded nine-blade diaphragm helps to produce pleasing out of focus areas.
The optical design is complimented by a stepping AF motor for quick, quiet, and smooth focusing performance that suits both still photography as well as video applications. Constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material, along with traditional metals, the lens offers greater precision and use in wide temperature variations. It is finished with a weather-sealed construction for peace of mind when working in difficult environments, and a brass bayonet mount for ensured accuracy and durability.
