Here, the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III black camera body is kitted with the 12-40mm f/2.8 ED PRO lens.
The imaging system of the OM-D E-M1 Mark III is complemented by an advanced autofocus that delivers quick and accurate focusing performance, thanks to its design consisting of 121 on-chip phase-detection points and 121 contrast detection areas; all the 121 phase-detection points are cross-type for improving precision in mixed lighting conditions and enhancing subject tracking capabilities. A range of focusing modes are available for different shooting situations, from general focusing, focusing on moving subjects, to working with close-up subjects. Custom AF offers you more user control over number of focus points used while and AF limiter function enables you to limit the focusing distance within a specified range for more reponsive performance. Thanks to the Truepic IX processor, the improved Face/Eye Priority AF suit portraiture particularly well by prioritising the face and eyes of your subjects while a dedicated Starry Sky AF mode can be used for focusing on stars and other night-time sky subjects. As for video recording, continuous autofocus sensitivity can be set within five levels for improved and more pleasing focus movements.
Adding the OM-D E-M1 Mark II's repetoire of shooting modes to enhance shooting performance, the OM-D E-M1 Mark III offers two modes that are first available in the larger E-M1X: Handheld High Res and Live ND modes. The Handheld HIgh Res mode takes sixteen images and composits them into one single 50MP JPEG or raw file; the negation of the need for tripod renders this feature useful in a wide range of shooting circumstances. The Live ND also take mulitple exposures but combines them such that you obtain a motion-smoothing effect of a long exposure with a neural densitiy (ND) filter. Even without an actual ND filter to create this effect, there is no overexposure, as you would normally with no ND filter. This Live ND feature, which is available in manual or Shutter Priority mode, is available with a choice of one to five stops of ND.
Poised for action and operation in most weather and environmental conditions, the rugged camera is splash-, dust-, and freeze-proof, and features extensive sealing throughout the magnesium alloy body. Its high-resolution 2.36m-dot electronic viewfinder with a high 0.74x maximum magnification provides for clear, distortion-free eye-level monitoring and viewing. The rear 3.0" 1.037m-dot LCD touchscreen monitor supports intuitive menu navigation and features a vari-angle design that supports shooting from a variety of angles. In addition, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enables wireless image sharing and remote camera control from a linked smartphone or tablet via the O.I.Share app for iOS and Android. Dual SD memory card slots offer image storage flexibility, with one of the card slots UHS-II compatible to support faster read/write speeds when used with a compatible UHS-II card. Incorporation of a 3.5mm headphone and microphone ports, a PC sync flash terminal, top hot shoe, USB Type-C and micro-HDMI ports, and a 2.5mm port for optional remotes ensures compatibility with a multitude of accessories.
The accompanying 12-100mm f/4 IS ED PRO lens from Olympus is a zoom lens designed for use with Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras, featuring a versatile wide to telephoto 24-200mm equivalent focal length range. A constant maximum aperture of f/4 provides consistent illumination throughout the zoom range, making it a great choice for both stills and video shooting. Optically, one double-sided aspherical element, three aspherical elements, five extra-low dispersion elements, two Super HR (high-refractive index) elements and one HR element come together to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations and colour fringing. A ZERO coating and a Z Coating Nano have also been applied to greatly reduce lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast. A circular seven-blade diaphragm produces a pleasing out of focus 'bokeh' quality.
Five-axis Sync IS compliments the broad zoom range by compensating for up to 6.5 stops of camera shake when paired with select OM-D or PEN camera bodies, and a Movie & Stills Compatible (MSC) high-speed imager AF system provides quick, accurate, and quiet focusing performance. It is also equipped with a Manual Focus Clutch mechanism that allows for fast changing to MF for more precise control. A lens function button is also featured on the side of the barrel for direct settings adjustment, and a weather-sealed construction provides peace of mind when working in changeable weather conditions.
